Krasnoslobodsk
Historical background
In 1870, on the left bank of the Volga River opposite Tsaritsyn, the farm Bukatin (or Bakatin) of the Tsaritsyn stanitsa village of the Astrakhan Cossack troops was founded. Like many other farmsteads in those places, it was named after its founder, Cossack Agey Nikolaevich Bukatin, who had moved with his family to the left bank of the Volga from Tsaritsyn.
А. N. Bukatin lived to be 111 years old, died in 1920, and was buried in the farm cemetery with a medal in his name for the establishment of a farmstead named in his honor.
In 1923, the farm was renamed Krasnaya Sloboda on the initiative of communist Nikolai Bukatin, grandson of the farm's founder.
In 1938 Krasnaya Sloboda became a worker's settlement, and in 1955 it received the status of a town, which was renamed Krasnoslobodsk. In 1935-1955, Krasnaya Sloboda was the center of the district of the same name.
According to the decision of the executive committee of Sredne-Akhtuba district council on March 18, 1957 the district center of the village of Sredne-Akhtuba was transferred to the town of Krasnoslobodsk. Executive Committee of the Stalingrad Regional Council of People's Deputies on March 28, 1957 № 7/146 decision of the executive committee of Sredne-Akhtuba district council of March 18, 1957 on the transfer of the district center of the village of Srednaya Akhtuba in Krasnoslobodsk was abolished as wrong.
During the Soviet period, the city was actively developing, it operated such industrial facilities as:
- shipbuilding and ship repair plant,
- fish factory,
- bread factory,
- two furniture factories (one near Secondary School No. 2, the other near Post Office No. 404161).
Of great importance in the life of the city was the experimental station of the All-Union Institute of Plant Cultivation.
In the city were built asphalted roads, street lighting, operated a number of service facilities, now liquidated, the population - atelier, laundry, city dining room, public bath, cinema, house of life, bus park, etc.
The housing stock was replenished with apartment buildings in the neighborhoods of the shipyard, the VIR experimental station, Krasnoslobodsk PMK and PMK-41.
There was a polyclinic and the Vodnikov Hospital in the neighborhood of the shipyard.
Since the late 1990s, the city's infrastructure fell into disrepair, many facilities were closed, street lighting was dismantled and the gas supply to the neighborhoods was discontinued.
In 2009, the opening of the first stage of the bridge across the Volga, which connected Krasnoslobodsk and Volgograd, which closed the ferry that existed for more than 100 years.
