Historical background

Первое поселение возникло в середине XVIII века. В 1958 году Нюрба приобрела статус посёлка городского типа. С 26 сентября 1997 года Нюрба является городом республиканского значения.

В советские времена село играло роль центра освоения алмазных месторождений Якутии, здесь базировалась Амакинская геологоразведочная экспедиция, также был известен крупнейший на Дальнем Востоке и в Сибири Нюрбинский вертолётный авиаотряд.
