The city, administrative center of Izobilnensky District (urban district) of Stavropol Krai, Russian Federation.

Historical background

Izobilnoye started as a railroad station built in 1895 on the Stavropol - Kavkazskaya railroad line.

The first name was Izobilno-Tishchensky settlement. The settlement grew at the expense of immigrants from the central provinces of Russia: Voronezh, Tula, Ryazan and others. 20 bread sheds, merchant houses nearby, and 30-40 dugouts of laborers - that's how the settlement looked like in the first years of its existence. Several farms were concentrated here, which were engaged in the purchase and industrial processing of agricultural products. Flour milling and butter production were the most developed.

In 1924 the settlement of Izobilno-Tishchensky became the village of Izobilno-Tishchensky.

In 1929 the village became a district center of the North Caucasus region.

In 1935, Izobilno-Tishchenskoye was renamed Izobilnoye. It was improved, landscaped, new streets appeared.

From August 3, 1942 to January 22, 1943 the village was occupied by German troops.

On October 9, 1965 by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR the village of Izobilnoye was transformed into the town of raion subordination Izobilniy.

In 1973 the coat of arms of the city was approved. Author - B. I. Bespalov.

From 2004 until May 2017, the city formed the abolished urban settlement Izobilny town
