The city in Russia (from 1967) in Taishet raion of Irkutsk region, satellite town of Taishet. It forms Biryusinskiy urban settlement.

Historical background

In 1897 during the construction of the Great Siberian Railway was founded siding Suetiha. According to one version, the name arose from hustlethat was during the construction of the railway bridge. According to Matvei Melheyev, the toponym most likely comes from the Turkic su - water.

By 1899 a small settlement had formed around the crossing.

In 1912, the first sawmill was launched.

In 1929 a four-frame sawmill was put into operation.

In 1933, the Paris Commune Club and the building of the railway station were built.

In 1934 the village of Suetikha was transformed into a working village.

In 1952, the hydrolysis plant produced its first product - ethyl alcohol.

May 11, 1967 the workers' settlement Suetikha given the status of a city of regional subordination, renamed the town of Biryusinsk, from the nearby river Biryusa.
