Ardon

In 1824 the road between Yelizaveta and Konstantinovsky military settlements was moved to the left bank of the Terek River. To protect it a number of new fortifications were built, including the Ardonskoe.

A year later, a village arose next to the military fortification, which began to be inhabited by highlanders from the Alagir Gorge.

In 1838, the village of Ardonskaya emerged next to the Ossetian settlement. A part of the Vladikavkaz Cossack Regiment was transferred here. Cossacks who were dismissed from service began to equip their homes. The government allocated 10 000 Rubles for the purchase of necessary tools and for the delivery of timber 60 pairs of oxen and wagons.

In 1964, the village of Ardonskaya was given the status of a city.
