Historical background
It was founded in 1802 as a settlement at the metallurgical plant, named after the son of the plant owner. The plant was started up in 1808, at first it produced iron by crystalline method, then it produced cast iron until 1912. In 1854 production at both plants was switched from charcoal to hard coal, which by that time was mined in the vicinity of the future Aleksandrovsk (Lunevskie mines).
In the 1920s and 1930s, the Aleksandrovsky machine-building plant produced drilling equipment and pumps, steel billets. By that time coal mining had stopped and during the war the equipment of Kharkov plant "Gidroprivod" was placed on the premises of the former coal preparation plant (later the plant returned back). In 1942 Alexandrovsky district with the center in the working settlement Alexandrovsky was formed from Kizelovsky district. By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR of August, 25th, 1951 the working village Alexandrovsky of the Alexandrovsky area of the Molotov region was transformed to the city of regional subordination Alexandrovsk.
