Historical background

According to the legend of the founding of the cityYaroslav, son of Vladimir Krasnoe Solnyshko, Prince of Rostov the Great, was once touring his domain and met an unknown tribe of pagans between the Volga and Kotorosolya. The pagans unfriendlylylyly met him and set a fierce bear on Yaroslav. The prince fought bravely and struck the mighty beast with his axe. The pagan tribe bowed before the warrior, and on the parking place it was decided to build a walled city - a center of trade, crafts and trades. It was named after its founder - Yaroslavl.

Yaroslavl was destined to become the first Christian city on the VolgaThe city was a place where construction, pottery, and metalwork were rapidly developing. Construction, pottery and metalwork rapidly developed here. The traditions of local architecture and painting were actively formed, a written language was spreading and a chronicle was being written. This progressive city lived an active life, including political life.

Having built diplomatic relations with the Moscow princes, the Yaroslavl rulers supported them in military campaigns. They were among the first to decide to participate in the famous Kulikovo battle, to join the fight against the Tatar-Mongol yoke and the complex process of unification of the Russian lands. In 1463 Yaroslavl became part of the Moscow state. The city stood out from the other lands: it was to its storehouses that the state treasury was transported in case of danger.

An important period in the life of Yaroslavl was the so-called "Time of Troubles — ะณะพั€ะพะด ะฒั‹ะดะตั€ะถะฐะป ะฟะพะปัŒัะบะพ-ะปะธั‚ะพะฒัะบัƒัŽ ะพัะฐะดัƒ, ัั‚ะฐะป ะฒั€ะตะผะตะฝะฝะพะน ัั‚ะพะปะธั†ะตะน ะ ะพััะธะธ, ะฐะบะบัƒะผัƒะปะธั€ะพะฒะฐะป ัะธะปั‹ ะพะฟะพะปั‡ะตะฝั†ะตะฒ.

In the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries Yaroslavl was the second largest city after Moscow. During this period a unique architectural pattern emerges, which is so appreciated by travelers and which provided Yaroslavl with the unspoken status of the "pearl" of the Golden Ring of Russia. The abundance of decorations, the solemnity of frescoes, large-scale paintings and monumental temples are now protected and are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The 18th century was a real turning point for the city. St. Petersburg emerges on the map of Russia as a "window to Europe", and Yaroslavl is to be reoriented from trade to industrial and manufacturing basis. At the beginning of the century, by order of Peter I, Yaroslavl Big Manufacture is created - one of the largest cloth manufactures in the country. The advantageous location of the city and a flexible economic policy of the local authorities contributed to the active development of the industry. Were established successful enterprises for the production of tobacco, textiles, chemical and metal industries. Famous in Russia and abroad are the names of Yaroslavl industrial magnates: Skripin - customers for the construction of a unique temple of Elijah the Prophet; owners of the famous stores brothers Eliseevs; "vodka king" Peter Smirnov.

In the twenty-first century, Yaroslavl is a major tourist and cultural centerThe city is a great place, economically ahead of many cities of Central Russia. Cozy squares, restored and preparing for the restoration of churches and cathedrals, reverent attitude of Yaroslavl to the architecture and historical past of the city will not leave travelers indifferent. Add to this scarlet sunsets over the great water, jazz and magician performances on the summer promenade, gazebos with aura of antiquity over the water, art galleries and theaters, one of the most impressive zoos in Russia and amusement park on Damansky island. Here you have everything to feel like a real traveler, all you have to do is make an itinerary.
