Vuktyl

The emergence of the city is associated with the development of the gas field. Drilling of the first well at Vuktyl was started on March 23, 1962. In October 1964, the first gas was obtained. In November 1966, the gas field development project prepared by the Komi branch of VNIIgaz was approved. On December 29, 1966 on the territory of Podchersk village council a new settlement Vuktyl village was registered. On May 10, 1967 decision of the USSR Council of Ministers was adopted for construction of a trunk gas pipeline from Vuktyl field to the center and north-west of the country. In August 1967, construction of Vuktyl-Ukhta-Torzhok gas pipeline was started. In February 1968, construction of the pipeline "Northern Lights" was declared an All-Union shock Komsomol construction site. On 11th of March 1968 the settlement Vuktyl was given to Dutovsky village Soviet of the outskirts of Ukhta; in the same year it became a workers settlement, the center of the settlement Soviet. In February-March 1969 the first Vuktyl village council was elected. In March 1969 gas from Vuktylskoye field began to arrive to Cherepovets Steel Works. In autumn 1969 the first gathering station №3 of the gas pipeline construction was put into operation. In 1970 in Vuktyl there were 7814 inhabitants. In 1973 surveys on a new route of the second line of the gas pipeline from Vuktyl via Ural to Nadym were started. Since February 21, 1975 Vuktyl became the center of the new Vuktyl district. On the 21st of August 1984 Vuktyl was transformed into a town of regional subordination, and on the 17th of July 1989 - into a town of republican subordination. From 2006 to 2015, the city was the administrative center and the only settlement of the urban settlement of the same name "Vuktyl" (with the full official name Municipal formation of the urban settlement "Vuktyl)The Vuktyl municipal district was abolished in 2015 due to the formation of the Vuktyl municipal district on the territory of the former Vuktyl municipal district.
