Verkhny Tagil

The history of Verkhny Tagil dates back to 1712, when on behalf of Tsar Peter the Great the Tula craftsman and merchant Nikita Demidov began to build an iron foundry and ironworks on the Tagil River, which initially produced carts, sledges, tubs, hats, fur coats, even pimples. In 1718 the plant produced the first pig iron. There was also gold mining in the floodplain of the river and in the mountains.

Contrary to his father's order, in 1768 Prokopy Demidov sold the factory to Savva Yakovlev. The enterprise was owned by Yakovlev's heirs until the 1917 revolution.

The Tagil River is small in its upper reaches, so there was not enough water to operate the hammers. In 1774, an auxiliary ironworks was built on the Vogulka River, 2 versts from the Verkhnetagilsky plant. It worked only in the warm season.

On May 18, 1861 there was a great sorrow - the settlement was engulfed by fire. All Tagil houses, except for the factory, burned down.

In the XX - early XX cc. Verkhne-Tagilsky Zavod (Verkhny Tagil) was a volost settlement. The Verkhne-Tagilskaya volost included not only the plant settlement itself, but also the villages of Kalatu and Vorobyi.

By the beginning of the 20th century, Verkhny Tagil had 4900 inhabitants. In the settlement there were two elementary schools, a paramedic settlement hospital, two churches, a gentleman's house on the steep right bank, the building of the township zemstvo. In 1903 Pavlenkov library was opened.

During the pre-revolutionary years, the factory was closed.

During the Civil War, Verkhny Tagil was a stronghold of Soviet power. It was here in the summer of 1919 that local Red partisans supported the units of the Steel Putilov Regiment of the 2nd Army and defeated the White striking group.

The plant was not restored in peacetime, the able-bodied population went to work at enterprises in Kirovgrad and Nevyansk, and the settlement gradually faded away. The local small collective farm named after Kirov and a pro-martel - that was the whole economic life of Verkhny Tagil.

There were great difficulties in transportation of goods. There was no railroad line at the construction site, so we had to transport cargo by truck from the nearest railway station Ezhyovaya in Kirovgrad. Heavy equipment arrived on its own from Verkh-Neyvinsk, Nizhny Tagil and Sverdlovsk.

In 1951, construction of the Novouralskaya GRES (since 1954 - Verkhny Tagil GRES) began in Verkhny Tagil.

In 1954 the bakery was launched and school No. 12, kindergartens No. 8 and No. 9 were opened, and in 1955 the following were opened: 1 stage of treatment facilities, hospital town, polyclinic, infectious disease department and Energetik movie theater.

On May 29, 1956, Verkhnetagilskaya TPP gave the first industrial current. In the same year, a school for working youth was opened.

School No. 4 was opened in 1957.

In 1958, Verkhny Tagil was connected by railroad communication with Neyva station. The Verkhnetagilskaya - Sverdlovsk-Passenger electric train was launched. In the same year, an energy technical college and a music school were built.

In 1960, the Kirovgrad Furniture Factory was launched. In 1961, the construction of a building construction plant began, boarding school No. 25 and the Kirovgrad poultry farm were built.

In 1963 the claydite shop of the building constructions plant was launched.

In 1964, the House of Culture was built, and the power plant reached its design capacity of 1,625 MW.

In 1966 the working settlement of Verkhny Tagil received the status of a city of district subordinationA construction plant has started operating.

In 1967, a bus station was built.

In 1972, classes began at the new secondary school No. 8. In 1973, a house of everyday life was opened.

In 1984-1985, the Glory Memorial in Victory Square was built and opened.

In the following years were built children's combine No. 25, stores No. 7, 16 and 17, savings bank, post office, cafe, preventorium, pharmacy, pig farm for 1000 heads, vegetable storage for 200 tons.

Then buildings were constructed for a telephone exchange and a sports center. All these facilities were delivered together with modern five-storey buildings with all amenities built on the sites of old demolished houses.

The builders of Verkhny Tagil helped to build both residential houses and enterprises throughout the Sverdlovsk region, including the settlement of Polovinniy with numerous production buildings of the poultry farm.
